It started welcoming tourists only in the 1970s. This kingdom, often referred to as the last Shangri-La, is a land of happiness and happy people, natural remarkable sceneries and a vibrant culture. It is a unique and rare place that few have had the privilege of visiting.

In the morning visit the Kuenselphodrang, National Memorial Chhorten (built in memory of late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck), the Zorig Chusum (School of thirteen Arts) and the Folk Heritage Museum. A typical Bhutanese lunch in the Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant. In the afternoon visit the Sangaygang view point (for a great view of the Thimphu valley), Takin Preserve center (Takin is the national animal of Bhutan), Changangkha Monastery and the Tashichhodzong, a beautiful medieval fortress / monastery that houses Government offices and the King's Throne room.

Transfer to Punakha. Stop at Dochula Pass (3150 m.) to view higher Himalayas. In the afternoon visit the Punakha Dzong (which served as the seat of the Government till the time of the Second King) and the Chhimi Lhakhang, the temple of fertility. Explore Punakha valley and town in the evening.

Transfer to Paro. Stop at Royal Botanical Park which contains a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. In the afternoon, visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong (Fortress of the heap of jewels) and the Ta Dzong, an ancient watch tower which is now the national museum of Bhutan. Explore the Paro town and valley.

In the morning hike to the Taktshang Monastery (Tiger's nest) at an altitude of 3100m. This may be one of the highlights of your Bhutan trip. The climb up to the view point will take around 2 hours. Here one can enjoy the stunning view of the monastery, and the surrounding temples built in 1692. Afternoon, visit the Kyichhu Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan and the drive to a village house for a real village experience. Experience a traditional hot stone bath and taste the traditional local alcohol (Arra). You may choose to have your dinner in the village house with the family.
